Pathfinders, I did not see that post, but they can add mine to the number.
Excellent seeing these birds recover!!
I also want to add, we in Washington State are supporting Breast Cancer Awareness by sporting a pink avatar.
We have several BYC members who have or have recently been diagnosed with BC...and we have challenged Oregon to go pink!
Any of you want to go pink?
No avatars of organizations, or any logo of an organization that solicits monies, and no adult content.

Buckeyes make a great choice for a homesteading fowl; lay plenty of eggs and cockerels make very nice meat birds (lines selected for fast growth can make 6+/- pound live weight at 16 weeks). They’re also the most active American breed, and make a great choice where help is wanted in composting, ect.

They were created in the 1890s by Mrs. Nettie Metcalf. She used Buff Cochins, Barred Plymouth Rocks, and BBR Game. They were accepted in the Standard in 1904.

I quite enjoy having Buckeyes, and I highly recommend them to anyone.

Bluface, you've hit the nail on the head

This show wasn't *nearly* the size of the one Sydney just won. I didn't count, but it wasn't a huge class. There were Jersey Giants and Dominiques in addition to the Buckeyes. I think there were about 20 in the class.

I have been reading about the study done by ALBC on the comparative protein feeding on the Buckeye and find it very interesting, makes sense to me.

Do any here use a higher protein starter the first 8 weeks?

I did with this years Icelandics but, just because my feed mill over mixed turkey starter and had a few bags extra from what they wanted to keep in inventory, so I got a great buy on 26% turkey starter which lasted me well into the summer. I will miss them, Amish feed store and absolutely great folks.

Anyhow just wanted to put this out and find out if many are still doingt it.
