My thoughts for you all on Thanksgiving Day:

"May your stuffing be tasty.
May your turkey plump.
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize.
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs."

Janet Hatch: We lost a good one yesterday. #59, who didn't get a name, died defending the flock from a hawk. The hawk got him, but the rest were safe.

RIP #59 hatch date 2-7-2011

So very sorry. very nice bird. Did you see what happened? Red tailed Hawk?

That's such a shame, it's never one of the average ones, or even one of the second best ones.
I lost the beautiful cock bird I got from you at the Shawnee show earlier this spring. I'd just penned up my Buckeyes for breeding, went out and he was dead. I considered using #2 bird, but he was too immature and then hens bossed him terribly, so I turned them all out. I didn't figure it out until about a week later, when I moved the igloo dog house I planned on using for shelter in that pen and found a big piece of a recently shed snake skin. A couple of weeks after that I dispatched it's owner (a two foot long Copperhead) over by the main chicken house.

Coyotes, coons, skunks, owls, hawks; thanks to the dogs I haven't lost a bird to a predator in years, but the snake was just one of those things.

Hey folks, we have a Buckeye cockerel hatched out of Pathfinder eggs. Nice looking fellow. need to find him a better home. We have no hens and have reduced to just Orpingtons. PM me if interested. Can send to several shows.

Janet, sorry to hear about your rooster. Was this one of the ones I saw at Hutch?

Pathfinders:
Do you have any of his offspring?

No, his hatchmate is in the breeding pen.

cgmccary:
Red tailed Hawk?

Yes. Big one, but not large enough to carry the cockerel off. DH chased him away.

Yes, this was my #2 pick from my 2011 hatch.

Sydney took BB/BV and RB/RV in both the open and junior shows at Connersville, IN; today. To top it off she also won the Grand Champion of the American class in the open show. Tomorrow we will find out if she can go up the chain to reserve LF or even champion LF.
