Buckeyes

Are Buckeyes sex-linked? My two Buckeye chicks Erie and Kaska were two weeks old and had significant color differences, with Erie (female) being a bright tan and Kaska (most likely male) having a darker brown coloration. They both have the slate underfluff, so they are probably pretty pure-breeds, but I want to know. Also I have a picture, but my phone is being weird and not letting me post it, so I tried my best to describe the two. Thanks in advance!
(also Kaska is 2 months older now, and has a prominent comb while Erie doesn't so that's why I believe he's male)
No but in the dark-downed strain (this may only be found in the bantams) they are autosexing to a fair degree, probably 80 percent. Female chicks have defined stripes while males have a grey back and whiter wing tips. There are a lot of questionables with this method, however.

No, they're not sex linked. I would assume that yours are from a hatchery? and you're dealing with hatchery quality and consistency issues.

Frazzemrat1 I wouldn't know if they were from a hatchery or not. I'm hoping they were, but I got the duo from a farm called the 4 Five Farm, not a direct hatchery.
erecwaddle3 That seems to add up, Thank you!

Update: I still don't know, but Kaska looks like a he. What are your thoughts?
(I can get a comparison if you would like)

Hi! Fount this Thread. I thought I got 3 Buckeyes but one developed a little more of a comb, this is at 10-11 weeks. Is this a Buckeye Roo or someone else said it might be a production red. Thoughts? The one with 2 chickens, it is the one in the back. The chicken in the front I believe is a hen Buckeye.

The chicken in the front is definitely a female Buckeye.
The one in the back is female, but could be either a hatchery RIR or a Buckeye with a single comb. I have had single combs hatch from my old LF Buckeye line.
