budgie fever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi i want a budgie and i was wondering if can teach me how to care for one i know the basics like their diet and stuff jest wanted to know more thank you.

PS.i have chickens, dogs, and fish the dogs are 4 German shepherds and a husky.

PPS.can you keep a budgie out side? how much heat can they whithstand?
A budgie is a great first parrot. They are smart and friendly. They fly extremely well, let them learn to fly first, then trim their wings. They can fly hard enough into the side of a cage or a window to injure or kill themselves.
They are prolific breeders, given a back-yard aviary. We kept them in Riverside, CA outside all the time. Temps in summer ~100-105 for weeks at a time. They were in the shade of our patio roof, with a large platter of water (like a large tray under a clay pot) and they would play in the water a lot, so cute! They had a brooder light on a thermostat for cool nights, it came on over the perches if temp went below 50 degrees. Word of warning, we lost them when the light burned out! TWO heat lights! They could not take a frosty winter night.
For pets, keep indoors. Give treats, they love millet on the spray. No step up, no millet treat. They will step up in a day or two! They learn words, say "UP" and they will do it on command. They love to whistle, some learn words.
I really like to feed indoor parrots pellets. The best are Harrisons, they come in a small size for Budgies. Less mess, and balanced diet. It is like dog kibble for birds. I know it looks expensive, but it lasts twice as long as seed.
Best wishes on your Budgie!:)

well... the thing is that where i live it often gets over 100 degrees can they withstand that? in the shade of coarse

Same here with tempeture. I would suggest getting 2, and a LARGE cage, and putting it in the house.

Otherwise, I would make sure they have lots of shade, constant food, and ways to cool themselves. Also, get at LEAST 2.

Yes, definitely get a pair. If you aren’t with them 24/7 then they will get lonely. Which is why it’s good to have at least two.

I do recommend getting the largest cage you can afford, it really does make them happier!
X2. Dylan the African Grey has about 8 x 8 plus her cage, which she almost never goes into until bedtime.

That makes me so happy to hear! I hate seeing birds in those tiny cages, I honestly don’t know why people even sell them.

We’ve always kept our budgies in a aviary in our house.
Dylan actually has 3 cages: huge day cage with playground on top, small night cage in the dark closet for bedtime (12 1/2 hours of dark makes happy parrots and owners) and small dog size travel cage for going in the car. She says, "Let's go" when she sees us getting ready to take a trip. She goes with us, or gets boarded at the vet like a dog. She hates being alone.
