BBQ is out of the lovely Barbara and the fabulous Dougie. When I decided to keep him for using in the project I figured maybe just one season and then I could put him in the freezer. Months later now, as he has matured so beautifully, I hope to sell him later rather than have to dispatch him. These photos do not capture his huge wide load. He is 6 months old. I put him and 2 new lovely hens from Aarron in together today.

There isn't a perfect bird but his shape is what I am after. If I could get his shape on my buff barred offspring then I will be happy. He is well rounded!

I have a pen full of his full brothers and Barbara and Dougie are still in the breeding pen together and I am setting every egg she lays. I want a few girls that are this round and beautiful.

I put my first buff barred home bred pullet in with Sweet Wheat today. She is out of Dynamite and Melon.
Yes, he and Dynamite went at it. That is so funny because Dynamite has not fought with any of the other roos like Dougie, Cajun or BBQ. This is the first time he has fought with another roo, even the ones that free range past his tractor. Must know he has to share girls now! LOL

And Dana was highly upset that a new young lady was in the pen with this new rooster, too. So she proceeded to start a fight with her. Not like Dana at all. Though Melon, who is behind her, is a little witch.

Here is one of the many young ladies I got from Aarron. I like the nice deep rich buff on them. The barring only shows up in the feet right now, whereas it showed up on my girls I hatched out on their heads. I found that interesting and am reading up on it now to see why.
Love that rich yellow foot color, too.
These girls are a little too young for the breeding pen but I am super excited to get them going!

Forgive the dirty nails, they live on the ground and have a blast making holes in the ground. Kids!

Amy, he's a beauty~!

Thank you all! I wasn't sure if he would add to the project or not but I really won;t know until I hatch and start growing some of his kids. I had him in with Melon but she only laid one egg in the month they were together so i set it about a week ago and she hasn't laid another. These two girls I put in with him today have been laying so I hope I can soon set eggs from them and BBQ.

A brother to BBQ that I shipped out today. I think these boys are going to add a lot to the breeding programs. For one thing, they have the nice loose feathering that is often lost in breeding programs. I fight to keep that in the types I breed when working on them.
