Buff Barred Cochin Thread

That is so wonderful that you were able to work him back to health, Lynne!

I did crop surgery one time and failed. I never was very good in the surgery room. My hands are meant for power tools and I fear I am not cut out for the more delicate maneuvers.

I can't wait to get some great girls with barring. So far mine have hints of it but nothing on the body, just head or feet.

Amy, I've done the crop surgery 7 times & only lost one. The one I lost was so weak as I waited too long. I've heard of others that have cleared the blockage without surgery. But my kids seem to eat the Bermuda Hay & it gets wound up in a ball in their crop & would never disolve. I feel fortunate that my numbers are good. I always hesitate to do too much too soon but sometimes there is just no other alternative.

Nugget is beautiful! Er....handsome!

I can't wait to get a lot of these on the ground. I have thinned down my other project pet pens so I can concentrate on more that I truly love. And I am getting milk goats next year so I need more time for them, too. I think Buff Barred, Mottled and of course, MF, will be my main breeding pens next year for Cochin.

thought i would share mine, if i had to guess i would call him lemon barred. he is a little light to be buff barred, with no black in him at all. but the pattern is straight across the feather (barred) instead of offset like cuckoo. these were a gift from a friend, i would like to find some more to add some diversity and improve type. (i only have 1 hen)
