Split breast is a pretty common fault I think. Some of my birds have it. It's one of those things that your eye gets trained to, when I first started in chickens I didn't know about it nor knew to look for it. In my Mille Fleurs it's something I'm going to be culling for in my next batch of chicks... One of my really nice roosters is a little split-breasted but he's got so much else that I love, it's definately not going to stop me from using him. In my Buff Barreds I think I just need to work on overal type.. Somehow I've only got 3 pullets growing up.. not a whole lot to cull from there.
Hopefully after my long-awaited additions come next week I'll have more to work with!
