Buff Barred Cochin

Krys that is a beautiful bird!!! How did you make those?

Thank you.

It is an easy project. Breed buff to barred, male offspring to buff females, select for type & colour from there.

Swheat has eggs for sale on eggbid. I got buff barred eggs from Steve2495. My incubation skills only allowed one of them to hatch, but she has very faint barring.

The first part of that project would prolly have to be barred orp.

Can be barred anything. One is only crossing to get the barring gene. It is the type of the buff Orps which is all important. If one doesn't use top quality Orps for projects one cannot get decent results. It takes a few years of selection to get back to type & to get rid of the smut in flights & tail.

It is very usual for females of buff or red barred varieties to have barring which is rather indistinct.

Here is the roo I am going to use for breeding soon. He is much lighter in color than his dad..some call this Lemon, but I think he has the double barring factor. Chickgirl2 and KellyHM and others have hatched eggs from my buff barred cochins.

I have three shades of gold barring in mine. He doesn't doesn't look like the birds I have been presuming have two barring genes as he has his more colour. I've been selecting mostly for type (apart from obvious faults) & thus far the typiest males have all be het for barring, so I don't know for certain. If he does turn out to be homozygous barring, please will you let me know so I can learn.

I can't wait until my babies grow up to look like that!! I hatched out 4. 3 of them have very distinct barring and 1 looks solid buff at this point, but I'm hoping she just has indistinct barring. If not she'll just go in my regular buff pen. I would love to get some more eggs from you in the future!
