Buff Dewlap Toulouse Thread

Marty, how are you doing? Is the barn feeling any less quiet and empty?

animaladdictions, I'm so sorry for your loss!

To answer your question, I started buying dewlap hatching eggs in March, 2013 from the place in Cali I rescued the geese from, as well as another seller from ebay. I hatched 5 in April/May. I then purchased a trio of month old goslings from place in Cali in May and received them in poor health with one that was badly injured. I kept 10 dewlaps from the rescue last July. I now have a total of 18 (12 greys and 6 buffs). My avatar pic is of one of my buff ganders that was sent to me in poor health in May. He is 8 months old in that picture. Spirit, my extra special grey gander, is my only dewlap not from the rescue stock.

Thanks Iain...I needed the hug. You guys are my only source of real understanding when it comes to the birds. Although my hubby and kids love me and hate to see me upset, they have and want pretty much nothing to do with my birds so when something like this happens, I feel kinda out there on my own to deal with it..ya know? The reason I asked about your birds is because I went snooping at some of your pics and ...well....

Some of your dewlaps are gorgeous!!! My buffs are out of Allison Grell's line and my greys are a mix of Holderread's and Overton lines (so I was told). Are you only selling eggs from your best pairs/trios or are you selling/shipping goslings as well? If I can sell enough babies, I'm thinking I need to invest in an unrelated pair or two to go with my small flock for next season's hatch along!

Everyone here are so helpful and know how we feel when another person or yourself loses a goose. No matter what breed of geese! Forum are great for moral support. Because my husband could care less about the geese. So I know the feeling.
Hope you can sell enough to get yourself some nice dewlaps in the future...

There aren't too many people out there that understand the way many of us do on this forum. It's my pleasure to offer comfort (albeit small) to a kindred spirit. Thanks for the compliments on my fatties!!!

You have very nice lines! I have no idea what lines the rescued birds came from as the previous owner did not keep any records, but there were definitely more then a few diamonds in the rough in the group. I sent you a pm to answer your question.

Iain, the barn is less quiet without Babys "wonk!", but I've got 3 6-9 week old kids in there now instead, so it's only marginally more quiet.

Julia has procured herself 3 mille f'lour chicks with her allowence from March, and is very content again. That, and we're treating her ear infection, so she's kind of into everything anyway. It's too bad to have lost Lucky and Baby, but with 10 goose eggs in the bater, we'll find a way to fill out the ranks somehow.

Now, with those 10 goose eggs and 25 blue chicken eggs, and me needing too set another bunch of goose eggs, Java eggs, and turkey eggs, I' guess I'd better get another bator going. If I don't get to bator 3, I'll consider this a light hatching year.

Marty, hopefully new dewlap babies will make you and Julia feel better. You must come join the gosling hatchalong thread. You are one of my favorite hatching buddies and it feels like something is majorly missing without seeing you posting there!

Thanks for the support Marty...however, I didn't lose any geese (thank the Lord!).. I lost FIVE call ducks and a Polish chicken to a coon. I love all my critters, don't get me wrong, it was bad enough to lose some of my gorgeous little duckies, but losing my geese...I simply can't imagine. I would not know how to handle it. I went back and read about your baby and from what I gathered, you had some geese that were attacked by neighbor dogs?? Is that right? I didn't get far enough to see what happened as far as charges and court. Did you ever take the owners to court over it? I'd be SO livid! I hope this year brings you lots of babies to love...although we know that nothing can really replace the one's we lose, the little one's do help to heal our hearts.

Would you believe I'm getting itchy to fire up bators 5 and 6? If only my replacement hygrometer would come... and I could get that darned 1582 to stabilize. one thermo said 99 and I put the other in and it say 96. Grr. They were matching last night when I had them both in the same spots.

Buffs are laying up a storm.

Have gosling hatching in the bator.

Africans finally started laying the biggest eggs of all.

I have been in the hospital w/pneumonia since Tuesday. My DH did bring me the computer once, but I didn't feel like doing much.
