Buff Orpington chicks

Stick with the Dearth, it is the best thing you can use. It will help with the smell, it will help with any bugs, it will help clean there system out of bad things, it is a all around product that is good for just anything that brothers them.

Look it up on line Red Lake Diatamenious Earth ( I know that is not spelled right) It has a chicken right on the label. I have used this stuff for my chickens, dogs, horses, cats, and myself for over 15 years and NOTHING has happened.

My chickens have never had lice, mite or worms. My dogs do not get fleas or ticks. And I have never had a horse with worms.

I use a cheese shaker ( you can find these at Wal-marts they look like large salt shaker but with bigger holes) and sprinkle it right on to their skin working right down through their hair. You can all so mix it right in their food ( can food works better) use one teaspoon for small dogs( under 35 lbs) and one tablespoon for large dogs (Over like 50 lbs). I f you have any more question please ask. I have a flyer with most of the information you may need. I can refer to it. Or you can research it on the internet.

I have never used DE and also never had a problem with fleas, ticks, mites, or anything else on my dogs or chickens. Maybe different climates have an effect. But I used to live in the irrigated desert that is the San Joaquin Valley and now I'm in the Pacific Northwest. Still no problem. When you say takes care of bugs, do you mean insect? My chickens take care of those without any problem and they have a good time doing it.

Just because a company who wants to sell their products puts a certain picture on the bag doesn't make it safe. It's my understanding if you put it in you garden to control bugs that it sticks to their body essentially grinding off their skin. If that is true, what could it be doing to your insides? It's an abrasive. And actually its dead sea creatures that have fossilized into stone (I can't remember which kind).

For me, I won't be using it at this point. I may reconsider if I ever get to a point that I need to. However, each to their own.

Matt, you seem worried about doing a lot of stuff for your flock. You will be ok. Take care of their basic needs and try not to over think it. Have some fun watching their antics. It's good to educate yourself, but some stuff is unnecessary.

Don't worry, be happy!
