Buff Orpington Roo or Hen?

This is a tricky one. I'm going with rooster though based on those saddle and sickle feathers I see coming it. My guess is that he is just a late bloomer and will start crowing soon. Oh, and

No. Hermaphrodites are sterile. But, most likely, your bird is a hen or rooster. My vote was rooster.

That's not a hermaphrodite, it's simply a cockerel. Orpingtons can be slow to mature. There's also another more dominant rooster present. That's probably the inhibiting factor for this guy, if he starts to crow he's gonna get his butt kicked by the other rooster. So he's staying quiet....for now.

Hopefully you will let us know in the future what happens with this guy. Yes, I believe it to be a rooster. But not knowing the age for sure and just going by what we see in the photograph… Keep your thread in mind and post another picture in three months should you still not be sure of the bird's sex.

I've got to take a new pup for 12 week shots next week and thought I may take it along. Hopefully they'll know how to sex it for me.
When we bought the chicken in August the lady said they were 5 1/2 months old. I already had chickens at home that were about 6 1/2 months old. When we got those two home they were a lot smaller than the 6 1/2 month olds so we think she may of been off on the age. I know they would not be the same size but there shouldn't of been as much a difference as we saw.
We shall see with this chicken. Its had us baffled for a while.

It definetly turned out to be a roo. Started crowing a while back and quickly took over.
