Buff Orpington Rooster? Please Help!!

This is my 2nd year raising buff orpingtons. I've gotten a rooster each year. The way I've been able to figure out which one is a rooster is that at about 6 weeks the roosters seem to stop developing for about a week. The comb also develops faster then the hens. That being said, I do have a hen that every one asks me if it is a rooster. It has a huge comb and it definitely the leader of the flock. However, she lays eggs and doesn't crow.

thank you, so if my buff orp chick stops developing for a week, it is probably a rooster? would you guess hen or rooster right now? thanks so much.

I would have to compare it to the others. I don't know if my method is really a good one, but it's worked for me twice. My roosters were fully feathered later than the others but the comb was more developed than the others. It's weird.

okay, do you know what two toned is though?

does anybody else have any guesses as to sex?
As per your pic at 6 weeks, I'd say it looks more like a pullet than a cockerel. -does have a very pink comb, but not much wattle development. -looks like all of my pullets at 6 weeks. That being said, I've never had Buff Orpingtons - until a few weeks ago. -so, not certain what the differences would be in the breeds.....and I, like you, am still perplexed about the two-toned comment. My two chicks definitely have more than one shade of tan in their feathering, but I don't know if this is what hdowden was referencing. -still curious about that...

roosters crow at any time of the day. mine go on and on sometimes. could be that they are just finding their voices though.
