*Buff Orpington Thread!*

Hi all!

This is a really long thread, so please forgive me for not reading all of it. I was wondering if anyone could post pics of their buff orpingtons at 10 weeks old? Also, can anyone tell me the average weight at that age? I've had some sickness in my little flock, and I'm trying to figure out if my girls are on track & looking healthy. I figured the buff orpington thread folks would know the best!

Look good to me from these pictures :)
My hatchery girls have different builds. I have on that's bigger and fuller, and a sleeker, slimmer one.

This is the only picture I have on this computer of one of them around 10 weeks or so.
She's the fuller one, Eloise.

Not long now! I have a cut off this little so and so! I wanted to take a took at her egg and she got a hold of my skin and started yanking it around and it started to bleed!

Bella and her little man! He had ago at one of the big girl chicks today (chicks from the broody hen above) and he give one of them a hard peck and she ran away thinking it was another hen but then looked back to see him chasing her, so she turned around and got him!!

Epic FAIL, Mt. Healthy Hatchery! My 18 week old Buff Orp pullet I took a chance on getting from a hatchery, albeit a different one than I had tried in past years, is slat sided/narrow-bodied and about the size a 12 week old should be. I'm not used to such puny size Orps after having mostly breeder quality birds for years. The same age New Hampshire pullet from the same place has thicker legs and is taller and wider than the Orp is, which should not be. And the NH is also smaller than she should be for an 18 week old. Oh, well, what did I expect?

Sorry, I tried and tried for a picture of Betsy today and she is very camera shy. Here is the NH, though. Doesn't look like she's over 18 weeks old, does she?

Sorry :/

I know, I ordered from Meyers and one of my Orps is very full, more English looking and laying, while the other is sleeker, smaller, and just starting to squat. They have good personalities though.
The sleeker one is starting to fluff up a bit, but she won't get as.. "Orp-ish" as her sister..

I keep trying to get a picture but they're hardly ever together. They're on opposite ends of the pecking order.

I have learned to carry a glove and wear a long sleeve shirt to check eggs. Some mothers are very protective.

I've a B. Marans who will chase you out of the coop. She was not so protective as to keep her chicks alive and I found both dead. I will now make sure she has her own space and beware if I need to tend to them. I think it was the roo that killed them. Unlike my Del roo who never bothers chicks.

How old are yours? I only have 1, she's 21 weeks, squats constantly but no eggs ... So impatient. Lol
