*Buff Orpington Thread!*

Thank you. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree.  .... I will say that if you are keeping Buff Orpingtons as pets, they are quite a pretty bird and really cute as chicks. I am not sure if there is a prettier chicken out there.

We have 2 buff that will be pets and hoping for broody's. I will agree they are gorgeous and you can't get a better temperament. We ordered a bunch of jubilee orpingtons and even though they are beautiful they seem a little more flighty..

Maybe I can post pics now! Is this shark fin back feathers thing typical of buffs? Is it on both pullets and Roos? New to chickens and curious. The other buff doesn't have it.

She does have a shark fin doesn't she?! So cute!

One of mine looked similar to this when she was young, she is a bit more "runty" than my other BO girl, but she has filled out and the fin is gone, but she is still a bit narrower than the other.

As far as whether the "fin" would be in both pullet and cockerels, I suppose it's possible, but usually a cockerel would be developing longer saddle feathers by now and in my limited experience, a he would be wider in the back - or at least mine was that at that age.

I don't think she's a cockerel, as she has barely any comb development. Aren't cockerels getting bigger and redder by 6 weeks? She's the nicest chicken in the group though. (Her name is Bernice). She loves to let my daughter carry her around. Here's another view of the fin. It cracks me up.

Looks like a pullet to me
