You need to weigh her to see if she is big enough. She has a nice comb. Is she laying? In one photo she looks two toned with her neck darker that the rest of her. You want EVEN buff coloring all over. Who is MPC ?

Quote: My Pet Chicken is a hatchery. it is doubtful you will get show quality from any hatchery. However, she is a beautiful backyard lawn ornament that gives you eggs. If I needed a backyard layer, it would a hatchery Buff Orpington!
Hello buff lovers...l hope I can jump in here with a question. Up until joining BYC I thought a chicken was a chicken was a chicken. I knew a lot of different breeds but never knew about "pure bred" or vs. "hatchery grade." Personally, I order all my birds from a hatchery and it works well for me. However, I work with a gal who has a daughter heavily involved in 4-H and our county fair. She was disappointed last year when her hatchery (Murray McMurray) Buff Orps didn't past standard. She asked me this morning about breeders or smaller hatcheries that would sell pure (is that the right term?) BOs. I said I hadn't a clue but would post a question to some folks who might. So, what do you think? Should she be looking for a smaller hatchery or a breeder? And if anyone knows of one or both, please let me know. Thanks for all your help!!
Aww that's sad for her. JCHinks line of BO is very impressive, i am no expert but i can sure see a lovely bird line in his photos. I want BO and will order from them, She just needs to look up the breed standards and go from there. Some of the major hatcheries will tell you if you need a 4H quality show bird click here... Ugh. I would hope that their price reflects the fact its children trying to learn and help them.

is the link for that breeder. I don't know where this child is located for shipping costs but i hope this will help her, i certainly encourage children to pursue any dream they have.
Thanks so much for the info, jchny2000! I will pass this along!
