I thought one of my little BO girls laid an egg yesterday, but then I'm not sure. I was eggcited! But they lay light brown eggs right? I caught one of my red sex links hiding an egg under the straw in the nest box yesterday morning. Now thinking it was just a hidden egg because I only got 1 light brown, & another of my red sex links lays light brown. I checked all the boxes REALLY well, & I know there were none hidden last night. Can't wait to see what happens today!!!!

So excited! I just found 3 one year old BO hens I am picking up this week!! That'll make 5 hens and my roo! Sounds like enough to start my new flock and start hatching this Spring!

With more cold coming, this is how I have covered my runs. Orp combs don't like frigid weather !

I just checked ebay. Couldn't find Tarpstogo but did find some clear tarps. Did the one you got have white fibers through it like hardware cloth or was is "crystal" clear?

Go to eBay and go to ADVANCED search, to the right of Search..Scroll down the page to sellers. Tarpstogo should show up. If not, you can go direct to their website TARPAFLEX.COM. Only get the ones with the white nylon mesh. They last for years. You can join tarps by using HEAVY duty Scotch brand clear packing tape too. I just have the gate to the main run to cover today. This stuff is great as you can cut it, and use the packing tape to attach it to metal posts, and gates.We used heavy zip ties to attach the tarps to the chain link. I've got a photo ....






All buttoned up. Just one panel to go ! This is facing North. There's a good stash of pumpkins to keep the birds from getting bored on frigid days too.

If you'll label your tarps when you take them down, you'll save yourself a hassle next year !

When we are buttoning up for the cold do not forget ventilation at the top. Otherwise we will have lots of cold hurt combs to deal with. That warm moisture from the hens must have a way out the top edges. Also the yr. that I buttoned up good and heated the water bowl I lost many hens to resp. problems. I have found that mine if kept from direct wind and have some space at the top to get ridd of moisture actually do better than heated.

Still plenty of ventilation up high, but now no direct wind on the birds.We now have 37 MPH winds.
