I have several misc. chicks I got this spring and I am going to cut down to just a few breeds rather than so many odd balls. I was wondering what opinions were on Buff Orpingtons and Golden Comets? Which one do you feel is a better egg layer ect... please tell me anything you can about both so I can decide which way to go.

In my experience, the sex-links are the best layers, hands down. BUT, the Orpingtons are good layers as well with a MUCH better attitude.

The Golden Comets will definately be the better layers, and the Buffs will probably be more docile. One main trait to consider is broodiness. If you want your hens to hatch chicks, then Buffs would be a very good choice (Buff Orpingtons are one of the broodiest breeds, where as Comets rarely go broody). But if your goal is eggs, then the Comets would be the better choice. Out of my 11 Buffs, 9 have gone broody 1-2 times this summer and so of course stopped laying for while...
