Ours is named Sarah, after a blonde cousin who requested that one of the hens be named after her.
We also have Trudy, Margaret and Ellie. We had a Henrietta and Bertha, until we realized they should be Henry and Bert.

Ok well I have this group of 6 Buff Orpingtons that are now about 6 weeks old & they are just SO cute & FRIENDLY! I'd heard they were a friend sort but I don't think I could appreciate that until I actually had them & so I had this cute little story to tell.

A few weeks ago when I was still keeping them in the house for the warmth I was bringing them out during the day & allowing them time in the chicken run/wire enclosure. At night I'd come back out to get them & put them in their freshly cleaned cage for the evening where they'd be back in the family room here with the family. Well I guess they were SO use to doing this & it was such a habit that the one day I was just finished putting in the clean news paper & beding in their cage that opens from the top & there were several chicks all right around me & hubby is standing there waiting to help "chase them down" to get them back in their cage when I put my hands out to one & she basically got in my hands! LOL & I'm talking to them the whole time & I'd put one in & then stretch my arms out to the next to come to me & the next little pullet would do the same & almost get in my hands! I did this with each pullet putting them back in their cage & then the little Roo took a bit more convincing but even he almost turned around & backed his body into my hands... LOL It was too funny & of course I'd no idea they would go in so easy like this & so I jokingly said to hubby "hey I bet you didn't know I was the chicken whisperer huh?!" & he's like standing there dumb founded saying "Ummm no I didn't & if I hadn't just seen that with my eyes I wouldn't have believed it".

Here's a pic of one of them standing on top of the cage & eventually they were SO accustomed to the routine that they would almost JUMP/FLY back in... it was too funny.

Frankly this group is just TOO sweet & really they'll still come up & let me put both hands out to cup around them to like pet their soft feathers & I think they like the affection of it... The black Austrolorp I have is 4 months old & we've given her little "live treats" which tend to endear her to us but she'll still not let me touch her like that....

I adore the Buff Orpingtons.

I love BO they are one of my friendlyest ones.
Saddly my favorite BO Rooster died on friday hay I just rilized that his name was Friday too.

Yoker I'm sorry to hear you'd lost your buff boy on Friday. The Roo boy I've got here is basically sweet though a little leary or afraid but takes his Roo responsibilities very serious...... I'd considered naming him Heart Attack because he's as serious AS a heart attack! But as much as he musters up what he has too it's pretty clear he doesn't want to have to actually act on any of it. He's quiet the character & I can imagine yours was too.

As for names I just love "The sunshine Girls" and so now that we're on names & having 7 hens here's a funny question for you all how do you tell them apart??? Is it just because I'm not outside spending enough time with them? I mean if I was out there would I notice differences & such? I'm having a tough time naming mine & I think it's because I can't tell them apart. I thought maybe people who "know the breed" would have a particular way to tell them apart. I mean people always ask me how I can tell my golden retrievers apart & to me that's just silly because they're completely different girls even in looks but to someone else well they're both golden retrievers... LOL I just thought after 6 or almost 7 wks now that I'd be able to tell these pullets apart. The Roo is easy to tell & has been since he was just 3 wks old. I figured given some time the pullets would become easier too.

I remember Peachy!! She is such a sweetheart, we named one of the buffs after her! I think we might have one cocky pants little girl too.
