I ordered a buff roo from mypetchicken.com and received him as well as my two barred rocks and two new Hampshire red on September 7th as day-old chicks, so next week they will be 5 months old. We previously had a buff roo that died and our intention was to replace him, however I am beginning to think he may be a hen. He has pointed sex feathers on his neck but has a rather feminine top hat. When we got our first polish roo we were told he was approximately 6 months old and look much more mature and rooster-esque, but that doesn't mean we were given the wrong age. Just let me know what gender he or she might be!

He isn't full grown yet though. I know what full grown polish roosters look like I've had one, but not from chick age..

the rooster feathers start coming in a 3-4 months, if it was a he, he would have some by now. He would also have a larger red comb and wattles, I don't even see a hint of comb or wattle on her yet, that's a pullet

He is bearded with a top hat.. my previous rooster didnt have visible comb or wattles...

What about the orange eyes? All of my polish hens have always had dark brown eyes and only my rooster ever had the light colored eyes and large nostrils... is it possible he is developing slowly in result of a bear attack followed by a hawk attack?

No that wouldn't have stunted growth. He is a she. Buff polish roos are far darker and like all polish roosters have pointed tops.

Well.. I think everyone has me convinced. Will reporting this to the hatchery do any good?
