buff rock breeders

A little update on the buff rocks here. This years hatches were dismal. Squirrel tails galore, a couple of cross beaks and many birds with cow hocks, some that were actually touching at the hock joint. I kept no males at all. My partner, with chicks that are cousins to mine kept a decent cockerel and we chose 3 pullets for her to keep; they all have issues, so it was the best of the bad sort of situation. I have one pullet from mine.

These birds need a whole lot less fluff and better feather quality, more tails, more size, more vigor. I've purchased a white rock pullet and am waiting for her to lay. When she does I'll breed her to my original cock bird, then send her over to my partner's house to be bred to her cockerel. Then we'll see what we've got for type and vigor and decide where to go from there.
