Look at the one in the first picture. See how her beak looks like the top beak part is about the same thickness as the bottom half, the top maybe only a tad tiny bit heavier? Look at the #2 photo. Look at the point where the feathers join the beak. See how much heavier and thicker the top end of the upper beak is where it joins his head? If you can look down from above, it is wider and the cartilage is more pronounced in the boys. You can sorta see the difference in day olds. That is how you tell male and female finches that are not sexually dimorphic.
 
I have been wondering the same thing about our Roo, if he is Buff or Red?? Is there a difference???

I haven't found information on the difference in buff and red. Will he work for their buff line or do we need to keep him with just the darker girl???
