Buffy and Red

Hi, my son presented me with two Hens last month. A Buff Orphington and a Roade Island Red. They were doing just great but today a branch fell on their fencing causing a big enough gap for Red to escape ( I will fix that ASAP). Red got out and my herding dog killed it. Can I get another Red for Buffy, she is missing him, will she take to another hen?

I'm sure you could get another chicken for Buffy. After all, chickens are herd animals. If you were liking the whole chicken experience, you could get a couple more.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens I am so sorry for your loss you should look for hens to add yes about her age but then keep them apart till you know what you picked up is not sick

Oh gosh, I am so sorry!!! I hope your heavy heart heals soon.

Definitely find her a new buddy. You will still need to mix them together slowly, but Buffy will eventually accept her.
