Hi BYC!

My girl Blanche has a weird lump on her face. Is it a bee sting or a mosquito bite? Or something else? Is there anything I can do for her?

1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) Easter Egger, 1 year old next week. Haven't gotten to hold her since I noticed this, but she doesn't look any thinner.
2) What is the behavior, exactly. No behavior, just a lump between eye and beak.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? I just noticed a few hours ago.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? Not that I can see.
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. No.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. I have no idea... it looks to me like its a bug bite, but I'm also worried it could be a respiratory issue because it's been raining non stop these last few days and everything is very damp.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. Regular water, mealworms as snacks, and layer feed.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. Haven't noticed her poop yet. Will have to watch her tomorrow.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? Nothing
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? Do I need to take her to a vet? Or can I treat this on my own?
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help. Posted below
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use: Currently using pine bedding. Chickens have a very large fenced area with two separate wooded areas. Food and water is in the run with straw bedding. There are 4 other hens in the flock, and we are in the process of building a new larger coop and run because we are getting 8 more baby chicks tomorrow!

In the picture below, you can see the lump on the right side of her face.

In the next picture, is her left side for comparison.

Thank you so much for your help in advance!!

I would keep an eye on it, in case there are other new symptoms. If the swelling increases, I would be tempted to give some Tylan50 injectable orally. A swollen eye may happen with MG, and it can happen without any eye bubbles or other symptoms. But a peck injury may also be the cause. Tylan 50 dosage is 0.3 mg per pound of weight twice a day.

Thank you so much! I will keep an eye on it, and update you with what i find.

In addition to what @casportpony advised, watch for signs of the eye becoming infected which will start off with an appearance of a pink film over the eye ball. If you see that, get her on an antibiotic immediately.

Does she behave as if she's experiencing any pain?

Terrific pics, by the way, very helpful.

She may have gotten pecked real hard and it swelled up. I've had it happen with one of my birds. Just observe her for now, the swelling may or may not go down.
Give it a week and let us know if there's any improvement.
