Building a Duck House

The Duck Coop, Its about 12-16 feet long. 8-10 feet wide. Wired with hardware cloth at the bottom 2 feet to keep Fox's out. With a DuckLoo in and their duck house.

Their Duck House, is made out of Free Pallets, We used extra pallets to fill in the missing area's. It keeps rain out, keeps the ducks Dry and warm during a storm. Is small enough that they love to lay eggs in it, but big enough that 3 full grown ducks. Including one pekin likes to pile in during a storm.

There is a watering system in the enclosure so there wasn't any needed inside the "House"

Yes both of our females prefer to lay there eggs in the small red house, The outside fence is just a Cattle fence, That we bent into shape and framed it. Used a fenced gate for the front to open up. They run free in a fenced in yard during the day but go back into their hoop coop at night which we shut to keep them from becoming fox food. We covered the cattle fence with Chicken wire, and at the bottom with Hardware cloth. That way nothing can get in. From any direction. We have shade cloth over the top for hot days they will have shade. Along with the tree's. We just filled the small red house and Duckloo with hay.

Great thanks :-D
If you go to the search box and type in duck houses you'll see lots of threads and pics. Just remember ducks need lots of ventilation in their house even if just kept in the over night, to be sure they have good air flow, ammonia can build up pretty fast with them pooping in their house They can get something called Aspergelous [sp] or brooder pneumonia it can kill them. so good air flow is a must. That is a good idea on needlessjunks house living in TX they can get away with only 3 sides and a roof. So think about where you live to as they type of house would be best for your ducks.

only thing worrisome is where the gate is looks like a mink could easily slip in there. They are suppose to be able to get through 1" openings.

This is the one I used to have before we moved. We used sand in the pen and large flat stones near their pool to rinse poop. We had a deep litter system in the coop. It never smelled in the coop but next time I'd like bigger windows. My husband is building a new coop this weekend.

Mud doesn't get threw it, we have it leveled up on 2 by 4s. With The premade gate, that is level to the ground. Its on high ground which helps with the rain. So its not in a dip where rain will collect. The mud on the inside doesn't get that bad, because its not burried under the ground. The water easily slips out from underneath it. And if we wanted to move it. We can actually pick it up and carry it across the yard, though it would take a few people because it is heavy. :D
