Building an "Old Style" henhouse.....move in day!....... (pics)

Looks great Steve! Your making real good progress.

I agree that you should use the window's for ventilation. I wouldn't go searching for double-hung windows or anything though. Just get those vinyl, 4 pane "barn" windows hinge the bottom and allow them to tip back. Really not sure how you are going to get up there to latch them though. My barn just uses hooks to latch the windows on the main floor but the loft has fixed windows. Hmmm... Maybe a real loose (cheap) double hung would be easier. Then you could just take a broom stick or handle of some sort and use it to pull the window up or down.

LOL, Steve, you've built the whole darn thing so far, and you're a contractor, you can buy a few pieces of plexiglas and frame 'em up and put hinges on the top or bottom (depending on preference), or get casement-window hardware. Sheesh

What KrisRose says about the way they usually operate. Any variation thereof would work as long as you have a mechanism to hold it where ya want it. The building I've seen the inside of in detail, there were long, what would you call it, sticks (like probably 2x3s?) to operate the top windows easily without a ladder.

Have fun (clearly, you are <g>),

Pat

I'd sure love to get out "west" .....have to bring along a 30.06 if I did.

Sorry.....
Nothing to update today. Snow is melting like crazy here and it must be 50 degrees. I'll be moving the henhouse to it's "permanent" location tomorrow.

Well you bring your .06 and I'll get mine out of the gun cabinet and we'll go find something to hunt.

Yep Pat, I think I may have to make em myself. Another option would be to find some windows from a housetrailer....I think those were small enough.

Gonna need a stepladder in the henhouse too.........

If you move that coop tomorrow I want to see pics. My coopie poopie boots were gettin' stuck today! I can't imagine how deep your tractor is going to sink. I wish you luck I hope it goes smoothly.

Ok. I can see that I need to step in here and save you, Steve. It's obvious that everyone else is just using you so that you'll come build them a nice coop, and i just can't sit by and let this happen any longer! How would you like to come to California and take a nice break? You are welcome to bring any guns you want. We've got plenty of wild things around here to shoot at. No strings attached at all!!!

Here's a list of suggested items that you might want to bring with you. Remember, these are just suggestions:
