This is what I have at this point. This does not include a door yet, or a linoleum floor.

You may be able to save a bit by going 2 foot centers on the walls....but what is a few extra studs. A different roof system (shed) will definately save you some $$$, I had to have this style.

You could save a little bit on a 3-1 shingle vs. 30 yr. arch style. I used over 500 squares of shingles last year and every one of them was this type....I like them and stand behind them.

You can definately save on that siding cost if you buy some cheepie vinyl siding....this is premium grade and premium thickness siding, the fact it is Red makes the cost more as well....and a special order. I have used this premium siding a lot and love it.

One other note.....even though the siding shows a cost of 509.00, I had in store credits that I had not used yet ( I bought over $100,000.00 in siding from them alone last year) so I had no out of pocket cost...but I surely could have used those credits for upcoming jobs.....so it is still a cost.

I am still gonna need some materials for a inside pen and roosts of some kind.....lights and a electrical outlet too. These are small costs....but it does put me somewhere close to 1500.00.

All for some chickens....crazy isn't it?

OK that makes sense...for me it would be more like

Rough framing package ...................less than $500 tons of lumber around here, I can frame out the floor in 2x6s and cover it with 3/4 OSB before I even think about buying anything. All that was scavenged from a remodeling project and an old barn.
Shingles, drip edge, felt, nails...........$free I know a roofer who always has extras
Premium vinyl siding and access.........free I have about 15 3'x12' tin panels laying in my barn
Windows............................................free I have 28 brand new windows I got from a contractor who was going to throw them out
Soffit and facia...(left overs)...............free again i know a few peopl with extras
Door...................................................around $40 for a good metal one at the habitat restore

Not much going on right now in regards to the henhouse build.

Vinyl siding has been delivered, it is all inside the coop waiting on some warmer days. I am anxious to get it done and the little coop removed and given away.

So....soon as old man winter loosens his grip on this frigid weather, I'll get back at it.
