Looks good Steve.

I have a coop designed already, but I might do the moat around the garden for the spring and summer. Not positive yet, but I am almost sure the extra cost of fence will be in my budget.

Instead of the moat being around the whole garden, I was thinking of making it in a 90 degree angle, 4' wide for a total of about 460 square feet of run. Of course during the winter they would be moved to the back of the house to get away from the strong winter winds, and for egg collection.

Steve...My DH, also a builder, was sitting behind me as I looked at the picks of your coop and I said to him, "Imagine how many chickens he can fit in that!? An 8x8 will fit 20!" He promptly says to me, "You don't need more than 20!" I can dream!

I will have to hatch out a plan to convince him to built something bigger down the road so I can have more chicks. He was looking at your plan though, with the two roof lines and the skids, and kept on saying, "We can do that, We can do that too." Be sure to post pics of the finished coop!

Okay, my wife and I have both been sick the last couple of days so nothing got done. However I am feeling much better and decided I better get some more work done on the henhouse.

With the warm weather we have been having I will be going back to my "real" job very soon so I better get a move on.

I just got back from buying the linoleum. I need at the minimum, to get the floor down, roosts built and nest boxes in place so I can get the hens moved in and the old coop out of there.

So, hopefully my next post will show the above needed work done and the hens can move in tonight.

Things went faster than I hoped for. First off....I am not a floor covering installer, but it went al right. First I cleaned the floor super clean...super clean! Then I laid out the covering and let it warm up from the cold ride home.

I then managed to get it fitted and cut to size. Final trimming came later. I got the cheapest piece of linoleum I could...the hens won't mind and it will be covered in shavings.

This is the "footprint" size of the breeding/seperation pen. It is roughly 5'6" x 6'0". I will add studs later on.

I built this roost to be removable, all I need to do is remove the screws at the top that holds it in place and I could move it between other wall studs if I wanted to. It butts up next to the future breeding pen.

And looking back towards the walk in door wall is where the nesting boxes are in place. I still need to fix the bottom perch and it is ready to use.

So it is/will be ready for the hens to be moved in tonight, I already called the new owner of the old coop and told him he can pick it up any time. He thought sometime mid week would be best.

I have some more work yet to do, but the bulk of the needed "move in" stuff is behind me. I need to make the small upper window, put siding on that area, finish the upper soffit facia as well. I want to put white "vinyl lattice"from ground up a few inches onto the red siding to keep the hens from laying eggs underneath. I need to add chicken wire after the wall studs are up for the breeding pen and make a nesting box for that as well. So, I still have lots yet to do and post pics as I go.

I will continue to post pics of the rest of the progress, although it may some time between postings now. Warm weather means work for me....and work means money. I gotta pay for this thing somehow, can't expect the hens to do it all.

It sure is nice to walk anywhere inside and not have to bend over for fear of hitting my head. Sadly, it will never be this clean again.
