I just wanted to say a big Thank You to everyone who has commented on the henhouse in regards to appearance, craftsmanship, desire to own one, and for the nice words about the hens.

I'd hate to keep bumping this thread up with a Thank you to each one of you who has offered praise, but I just want to let you all know I appreciate all the positive comments and advice.

I stopped in to the local vet a few days ago, he is 73 and I have known him since as far back as I can remember. He said to me "That sure is some henhouse you are building, just like the ones around here when I was young". My dad who is 84 just got home the other day from Alabama, and he said pretty much the same thing. It is nice to know I brought a little "ancient design back to the area" with this henhouse and the "oldtimers" like it.

Steve --- your coop has turned out just fabulous, and looks as though your gals give it 2 thumbs up (well, they would if they could ... LOL).

I think the separate breeding area is totally great -- I didn't know much about separating broody hens until mine decided to sit on a clutch of eggs (due ANY DAY) and I started reading the threads here on BYC for information. My NEXT project, which is in the works, will definitely have a brooder area.

Many thanks to you, as well, for chronicling your coop project and providing pics, materials list, etc. I, like you, really get into the old farm building designs and wish I had one of those old barns myself, instead of the pole barn I have now. Those sterile metal buildings don't do ANYTHING for aesthetics!

Nice pics! Yes, it's beautiful and I love hearing that the old timer's are loving it as well ,
you've definitely achieved what you set out to do. Thanks for sharing the whole experience
with us. It's been so fun to watch the progress. I think at this point you could go all over the country building these things for members so if you and the wife want to travel... see the country and work. I think you would be set for years. The wife could make quilts! heehheee
