I will be making a different style of building, My grandpa and dad made a lot of farm barns in this county back in the 40's that had a roof shaped like the Ace of spades. My dad is 84 and still active, so I want him to show me/help me make a new building using that type of roof line.

PLUS!.....I really wanted that old little coop out of there.

I just went through this entire thread - whew... but that coop is just flat out AWESOME!! I can definitely echo the groups jealousy sentiments (in a good way of course). Greeeeeeen with envy I tell ya!

Thank you so much for keeping us in the loop with the updates of your coop. It truly is amazing! You definitely have reason to be proud of all of your hard work!

They laminated green elm together on the deck of the barn....they made a jig the shape they wanted, then laid in 1x3 green elm.....nailed the beegeebers out of it while in the jig. When removed after nailing it retained its shape and as the elm dried it got rock hard. Grandpa had his own sawmill, therefore sawing it and immediately taking it to the site to make those laminated rafters.....being green and wet was the key dad said.

I won't be doing it with green elm, I think I can do it by laminating 1/4" luan together in a jig and have the same effect.

I'm already looking at doing another coop. Are you only using a single layer of wall and not covering the studs? I'm wondering if I need to double layer for insulation in the new coop like I did in the old.
