They laminated green elm together on the deck of the barn....they made a jig the shape they wanted, then laid in 1x3 green elm.....nailed the beegeebers out of it while in the jig. When removed after nailing it retained its shape and as the elm dried it got rock hard. Grandpa had his own sawmill, therefore sawing it and immediately taking it to the site to make those laminated rafters.....being green and wet was the key dad said.
I won't be doing it with green elm, I think I can do it by laminating 1/4" luan together in a jig and have the same effect.
