I apologize for hijacking this thread to talk about lumber, but I'm actually really enjoying this discussion and learning new things. Maybe, in addition to different mills doing it differently, climate plays a role in the final lumber size, too. Boston is really humid in the summer, and really dry in the winter. So much so that the doors inside my house swell in the summer to where they barely fit inside their frames, and in the winter they shrink so much that there's a gap and the latch no longer reaches the other side, so the doors won't stay closed. That's a significant size difference, especially since I have central air in the house. Outside it's worse. So maybe I'm just getting "summer wood" now and it's just bigger...
I'm also really enjoying following this thread in general. The construction is coming along really nicely, and motivating me to go work on my own, too.
I am anxiously awaiting updates in your thread as well .
Have to say it...Then I had 2 cutoffs big enough to get the front gable sided , and gave it a coat of paint .
Getting close!
Have to say it...but this would be a good place to have a huge vent,
like all HC instead of siding.
It's up high and protected the by run roof.
