Building My First Coop

Pics
Hole cut for door , it is 8" off the floor of the coop , I'll put a step up inside for the birds .

Door mounted , I did not center the door on the coop , I wanted it closer to the nesting box side .

Solar charger/light sensor and over ride switch mounted . I mounted the switch in a water proof outlet box .

The door works as it should , didn't run into any issues with the install . I'll leave it on auto for the next few days just to double check .

Started framing the end of the run and also built the door to get in the run . I'll pick up hinges for it tomorrow and get to work on the back side coop door too . Got the rest of the 2x4 supports on one side of the run , will also get the other side tomorrow . The hardware cloth for the run will be here Monday . The Ladies First door closed about 15 minutes ago so looks like its working properly .

It's looking real good!
If you haven't made your mind up on latches for the run door, I really like these from Lowes. I put 2 on the door, one higher, one lower and I use a spring clip to lock it. It's about impossible to lock yourself inside the run. If you think it might, put the spring clip back in after it's unlatched.

That's what I use on my main run door.

Thank you . And thanks for the suggestion on the latches , I had not decided yet but after seeing your picture I will be grabbing two of them tomorrow . :thumbsup

A lot of painting today , not one of my favorite things but gotta be done . Siding for back door for coop and trim for back door and gable end and far side window . I also mounted the door to the run , didn't install latches yet , and painted it white , I built that door frame with untreated 2 x 4's so I wanted to get some protection on it .
