Here in the farm country of Michigan out regular predators are Raccoon, Opossum, and the rare cocky Coyote. So the strong wider fencing was right for us.

I like cattle or hog panel for it's strength against coyotes, bobcats, raccoons, possums, neighbor dogs, sometimes my own dogs, etc, but usually double up with either chicken wire or hardware cloth to discourage smaller predators, too. I've lost birds to baby possums and raccoons, and seen small hawks squeeze through fairly small openings. Forget about snakes and rats. They always find a way in. Ugh.
