COOP UPDATE
I didn't keep using the deep litter method. I switched over to sand. I use a cat litter scoop to scoop up the poop every morning. I put it in the orange bucket for my compost. Once a year I buy 9 bags of playground sand from home depot. The hens kick up a lot of dust outside so 2 or 3 times a year I sweep down the walls and windows. After 6 years, I am going to replace the roosts, and repaint.

I use a putty knife to scrape the sand off the bottoms of the base / where the walls meet the foundation

the run is fully covered to keep eagles and hawks out

Leghorns are good diggers. I have hauled a lot of rock out of the run. They like to dig around the base of the coop.

Now I need to wash down the nesting box rack and boxes and we are good for the winter. I might pick up 9 bags of playground sand and add it to the floor but I did just do that last spring.
