I have 28 posts to read,, don't have time right now.. by the time I get back it will prolly double that amount,,
I free range guineas,, they are no good unless they can free range,, but you have to have lots of them because free rangers are free meals to many predators..
I free range everything,, I have 9 acres.. the guineas do sort of spill over onto my neighbor's yard,
fortunately, the neighbors don't mind,,
I free ranged my peacocks also.. they stick very close to home..
I had to males who claimed my work truck as a roost.. they like to go up high to roost.
guineas are lousy mothers.. if a hen does hatch out 15 chicks,, by the end of the week you will be lucky to have 3 left,, more than likely there will be zero ..
you have to catch the babies and brood them until they are all feathered out..
better yet, find the eggs and incubate them in your incubator.. I have done hundreds this way..
If you can, raise them with chickens (chicks).. they will be much tamer, and they learn how to go into the coop at night ..
owls just love guineas,,
what Terri said about ticks is true,, the only ticks I find are when the dogs go into the woods where the guineas do not..
I used to get up to 8 ticks on myself when I mowed the lawn around the pine trees.. I have not had a tick on me for at least 5 years..
I would give up all my other birds and keep the guineas, if I had to choose just one ..
they make the best soup..
