building paradise for the birds

Pics
this is as far as I could get the rest is on its way..
top view...got the temp remote installed and the power installed into the digital temp

outside view looking thru the glass

night everyone

nice job so far on the incubator....

How are you keeping the light bulbs from melting the plastic?

Do you have insulation between the sockets and the plastic?

How does the Teeter totter mechanism work.... I cant quite visualize it. I can picture a cam system that will tip the tray...

It seems like there is a lot of room in that chest but you arent using it I mean for eggs. Is there a reason?

Just curious....

as for melting the plastic..you don't have to worry with 40watt it wont get that hot I used a single 40watt in a smaller unit that was made of Styrofoam cooler...and it was just fine..
as the teeter totter...looks like this...you just push down a side and several hours later push down the other...30 eggs in one second...no need for hand moving them...it also keeps the temps and humidity more stable that you don't have to keep the bator door open

From experience building a cooler bator. I don't think you want the fan down there by the eggs in the bottom of the cooler. I don't think it works well to have the air moving over the eggs plus hatching chicks could stumble into the fan blades. Also one other thing. Where will you put a tray of water in your cooler? You may want to add a mesh floor a few inches above the bottom of the cooler so you can have a pan of water under the eggs that the chicks can't get to.

if you look at the picture the fan is not even hooked up or screwed in it is just sitting there...lol..the fan will not be on the floor of the cooler...plus when you put a fan in a small unit like a coolerbator...the fan will be pushing air right over the eggs...its no different then in a commercial unit..it blows the air right over the eggs...its meant to move the stale air....as for a tray of water...the unit is not even close to being done....im just showing people step by step...when you make a coolerbator...it is all built the same...water tray on bottom, mesh wire over that , eggs and temp gauge, n wheather you use a wafer or digital unit...a fan....which is optional and some lights.. and also I never said I installed the fan either just said I wired in the temp probe and the power to the unit...ive done plenty of research on many things that im currently doing...and for only being not even a year into this....more like 8 to 9 months...I think im really far ahead...so sit back cause after the COOLERBATOR...im building a large one with full humidity control and ofcourse heat control...and both units will be digital...if I get really ambitious I will install automatic egg turners...(not sure about this option...I like the hand method.)
thanks for watching tho

Curious as to why the thermostat is on one and rather than between the 2 lights(heat sources)...maybe the fan placement will make that question moot?

the fan will move the heat around...and the wires will be rolled up and secured to the wall just above the height of the egg...(that is the location on where I have seen other people hang them..)well out to work I go see you in a bit...thanks for watching

well just got done moving the real silver golden to its new home and here are some comparison pics
real silver golden feet...notice how dark they are compared to the other silver golden

notice how much whiter the chest is compared to the other one

almost olive green color...not as olive as the lady Amherst

see the feet...real one on left....and the cinnamon silver golden on right

silver golden left cinnamon silver golden on right

silver golden left and cinnamon golden right

you can see great in this pic...silver golden left and cinnamon golden right...can you see the differences in the chest as well
