building paradise for the birds

Quote: I used gallon jugs filled with water and lengths of 2x6, oh and a large wooden stool worked as a wedge and a weight to hold HC down when necessary.
Went thru 175' of the stuff, 95% of it by myself, with very few cuts...check out My Coop page. I also used a 1" edge crimper to bend over raw wire edges.

I had a local handyman come and build my run because I don't have the muscle or skills to do it myself, and ship date was approaching SOON! He had some power tool with a large body and a changeable wheel about 5" across that spun, and cut through the hardware cloth like butter. I have no idea what that tool was, but it was massively faster than tin snips are.

Angle grinder with cut off blade....
.....I use one for cutting 14ga welded wire fencing, never tried it on the HC as the tin snips work just fine.

yeah, an angle grinder would work, you would just want to be careful of what surface you have the hardware cloth on. that would leave a pretty good mark on a garage floor. But for a small coop, you're probably better off with the tin snips as you wouldn't get a whole lot of use out of an angle grinder if you don't already have one.

I just bought an angle grinder for cutting wire like this..... My wire is 12.5 gauge.... and expensive Aviary wire... Someone gave me four walk in aviarys made with the stuff. But been outside for a good twenty years. I need to trim off the rot. about a foot.

Plus you can use it to cut cattle panels. I plan on building a work table for the process with reinforced cutting surface. I cant kneel so I hope to put down an arch of wood to slide the wire through so I can work mostly from a seated position...
