I had been planing to post a nice and lengthy post about my middle-age crisis/summer project, but lack(ed) time. So here I am with a short report and gratitude to many wonderful posts on the BYC, which helped me from start and finish on this endeavor! This was my first building project beyond fixing up some little things, so it was quite fun, lots of learning, and a great excuse to buy new tools.

We live in VT, and with that in mind here is the coop I have built by adopting IMHO best ideas I ran into (our house of the same coloring scheme):

Attaching a few photos, and should take some more recent to add later (since then moved all the bricks to establish platform in the back). Additional photos and some sketchup framing plans are available from https://github.com/yarikoptic/coop .

If I was a chicken, I would love to live there!

How many SF and how many birds?

9 chicks with one rooster -- they all managed to survive their youth in our basement (was not expecting it ;-) ) they have about 11x6 ft = 66 sq.ft of run space and then there is their house is IIRC about 4x6=24 sq.ft

You did an excellent job! Well done. Clearly you have construction experience!

thank you! Now I do indeed have some experience indeed ;)

NICE!!!
Wants to see more, but....
hard to look at them in that format....
...and I couldn't see the sketch framing plans at all.
One thing I did see, that metal roost(?) is not good, especially in your cold climate.
Maybe once you get more time, you can make an article of your build here:

Here's some guides on 'how to':

Welcome, neighbor! I live in Windsor County, you? I'm a bit north of Springfield. Today was the joy of freezing rain, snow, and sleet. I can't wait for real winter!

Very pretty coop, and clearly took a lot of time and care. Your middle-age crisis is sure prettier than mine. What breeds of chickens? Does your rooster wake you up?
