We decided to try our hand at building our own coop to fit under our stairs.
Let me start by saying "We are not Carpenters!".
We had tons of pallets and decided that would be a good start.
We put 4 together to make the main walls of the coop and the filled them in with extra wood from more pallets.
Built in a roost and boxes. Put on a roof and then giant barn doors that open on nest box side.
We were lucky enough to find a cabinet shop giving away odd plywood pieces. That served as our boxes, roof, and barn doors.
My brother had roofing to give us. We used an old floor register as a vent.
We cut a hole and made a chicken door that leads out to our chicken yard.
Finished it is about 4 foot by 4 foot sturdy house that is just right for our 4 hens who seem to love it.
The whole coop cost us about $50 for hardware.
