My neighbors chickens have hard large lumps in their croups. Any ideas what it could be?

Only in the evening? But gone down some by the morning? If so, sounds like a typical crop.

Otherwise, are they eating and drinking ok? Droppings normal? Any acting sick?

Seems to be. Also, egg production is off and it's super hot out here right now. What's regular croup? Is it bad? I'm new to all this.

It's not croup, it's crop, it is where the daily food intake first collects, it fills every day as they eat, then should empty overnight, as they do not eat at night. If the crop is full in the morning, there is a real problem.

Many times, chickens lay less in hot weather.
