Winston got popped by a cottonmouth 2 days ago. He’s almost over it. This pic is current as of today. He’s the first of the 3 puppies to be bit. His mom and dad got bit by the same snake. For his dad Brunson, this is something around the 10th bite, the third bite in a month.

Oh wow

Wow! Sorry for your losses. Glad you’re getting them under control now though. As for the snake, if it’s the same one, there’s no way to kill it?

Oh no, is different snakes each time. Usually the dogs kill them. Sometimes I do.

Our venomous snake population is dense. On my 40 acre farm, there’s probably a dozen or more individual venomous snakes of multiple species present at any given time.

Here’s a rattler I killed about a week or so ago that ate a free-range sub-adult.

If I didn’t know how to treat the dogs at home, there would be no way I could afford to keep dogs here. Over the past 8 years, I would say my dogs have weathered about 50 bites. So far, no losses.
Oh WOW!!!!!!!!!!! I normally don’t even mind snakes, even had a pet one VERY briefly, but I would NOT be able to live there hahah I draw the line at venomous ones. Especially if they’re harming my animals. That said, I would think the dogs would learn about snakes and avoiding them after so many bites? I know they do snake avoidance training out west, I would think lived experiences would teach just the same ha but maybe the snakes hide too well or something.
