I currently have 3 four day old chicks in the house. All are supposed to be females. They came in the mail yesterday and were doing great. One of the chicks (an easter egger) has started to bully the other two. I have had to separate her from the other two girls. I know pecking is common, but she was excessively pecking and pulling the two girls around the brooder. One of the chicks didn't look so good after the last peck/pulling from the easter egger chick. The easter egger is very aggressive.
The hurt chick is starting to move around again, so I'm hopeful she will pull through. I haven't seen this type of excessive pecking before. They have unlimited food, water, warmer, and a ton of space in the brooder. Will the easter egger out grow the bullying? I thought when the other two chicks are stronger and bigger I would reintroduce them. Is this unwise? Do I have to worry that the easter egger may be an aggressive hen later? Thanks for your help.

More likely than not, the EE chick was miss-sexed and is a cockerel, but time will tell.

Meanwhile, you can read my article on aggressive chicks linked below. There are lots of tips on how to deal with it and stop the behavior.

Loved your article on bringing chicks outside! I have a big enough pen and actually have a 10x10 dog kennel where I keep the "maternity coop". I'm going to change that over to the "chick nursery' and make a new "maternity coop" area. I raise my chicks outside in a dog kennel, after about 2 weeks inside but I've always said "It's crazy, the mommas have them out and about from day 2 on". Sometimes us humans get in the way, lol. I especially love the idea of their immune system becoming stronger because they are chicks growing up in the environment with the other chickens. Great article and thank you for writing it. Off to read about bullying chicks, lol
