My 8 month old Barred Rock has bumble foot but the scan is on the top of her foot and all the swelling (and heat) is on the pad. Removing the scab, you can't see anything but the bones. It was discovered Friday 1/8 and we removed the scab, tried to find the kernel with no luck, flushed it with wound care solution, sprayed vetricyn, put triple antibiotic ointment on the open wound, wrapped with gauze and hurt-free bandage tape. We have repeated every other day since. The swelling has gone down some but it's still pretty warm. She is in the "chicken infirmary" (heated building where she is in a large crate). She has been drinking her electrolyte water well and eating well. Any suggestions?

There isn't always a "kernel" of pus. Removing the scab and flushing out the wound, then treating it as you are doing will get the tissue to heal in a short period of time. You can pack the wound with antibiotic ointment and bandage so dirt can't get to the wound and turn your patient loose back into the flock. Just check the wound every couple of days.
