Bumble foot?????

Unless there is an opening to the interior of the foot, the Tri-cide Neo will not penetrate thru skin. That looks like some other type of infection to me. If there are absolutely NO scabs on her foot, no bruising either, then if she were my bird, I might try going a round of Baytril on her. Or even Doxycycline on her. Cephalexin also works well on soft tissue.

But here is where you can get some Tri-cide Neo if you want to give it a try.

no scabs at all on her foot....I'm wondering if she stepped on something and its infected now....just not 100% sure on the bumblefoot....

You could always try lancing it to see what comes out. Be ready with all the tools, wrap and ointments to work with.

Penicillin needs to run thru the body to synthesize it. I am not sure that would work. But there are antibiotics, such as Lincomycin that kill bacteria on contact. Penicillin is not one of them.

I just read an article on yahoo about gout in chickens and the symptoms seem very similar to what Hopper (imagine why i named her that) is experiencing. As long as a scab does not form, I am not lancing anything or surgically removing anything.

The bumblefoot that I just treated had a core of an infected mass that was the size of two small peanuts. Soaking would not have done a thing to rid the chicken of this. Lancing only works if all there is is pus in the foot. Yes, I pulled off the "scab" and pulled out the mass without anesthesia. The hen was calm in my arms. She flinched only once. It was less stressful for her than a trip to a vet and anesthesia. I cleaned her foot again today and she is walking without any hesitation on it. She is eating, drinking and behaving normally.

I read somewhere about gout in chickens...that if that bulbousy area is rather hard and you can move it around with your fingers, then it probably is gout. If you go thru the archives here, there are folks that have found a certain food you can feed your chickens to help remove the gout.
