Bumblefoot and flexor tendon

I have been treating my duck for a bad case of bumblefoot for awhile now. Today I soaked her in Epsom salt and peeled off the scab and was able to easily remove some of the white hardened infection. After I did this I noticed a white string in her foot. I gently pulled on it and I think it is her flexor tendon! I am horrified. I have no idea what could have caused this and feel terrible. I didn't go digging around with a knife. I'm very careful. Please help I feel absolutely awful.

I don't, but it wasn't the tendon, it was surface level and I've had to remove a kernel before so I'm 100% sure of what it looks like.
