Bumblefoot in a Silver Appleyard duck

Pics
How bad is she limping?
Medium. She can keep up with the others but she's favouring it.
Maybe try to just remove that plug looking spot first. The iodine helps to lift the infection to the surface..Then you won't have actually cut the foot open..Just my suggestion. It will be painful..
Painful but it will be even more so if she dies because the pus stays in.

Just because I feel the need to share. :lau This is what Brownie's bumble looked like.

Hopefully this helps you a bit! First pic is the top of her foot, you can see how big it was even from the top. Second is the actual bumble, third is the removed plug. I soaked her foot for about 30 minutes, then pulled out the plug. Applied the clear Iodine when I was done. I gave her a day off the next day (more because I didn't have an assistant available than because I felt she needed a break.) The next day (so 2 days after initial surgery) I soaked her again & pulled off the scab, there was a very small plug again. Repeat of iodine & repeated process every day or every other day for about 5/6 weeks. She only had pus the first 2 days! And now she's living the good life!:woot

Thank you! I am hoping there will be visible pus when I remove the scab.

Kathy, sending pm soon. I'm not ignoring you, promise

Should have elaborated... I was already late for leaving when I typed this out in a hurry.

I'm not going to go digging willy nilly without any prior prep. I will be doing the iodine application, I think, and at the very least soaking. I will open it up enough to see how much is visible, remove any pus I can see, and stop if bleeding starts up or some other issue.

I have the iodine now.

I really wish I would have taken some pics of Brownie's foot after I removed the bumble. She bled quite a bit after the first surgery. I held a clean gauze pad on it with light pressure & I had styptic (did I spell that right?) powder, but by the time my son got the package opened for me the bleeding had stopped. The whole procedure was like a comedy of errors. I was very unprepared. I had everything purchased, but nothing set up. So everytime I needed something I had one of my kids running around looking for it for me! :barnie Oh, well! I learned! The next time I had everything prepared ahead of time & now I keep everything neatly labeled & in a tote.
Sorry for the rant. I went completely off topic! :duc The whole point of my post was to say that there was definitely bleeding the first time, but the second time there was significantly less & every time thereafter there was barely any blood! Whew! That was a long post to say almost nothing! :p
