Baby steps... Start by removing the scab. No harm in that
I just finished up her soak and applied iodine. I got some of the scab off but there's another part that won't come off, & I tugged pretty hard.

Okay, so this is the current plan. If anyone has an issue with it, speak now or forever hold your peace.
I have given her exactly two days' worth of Amoxicillin. I gather that it should absolutely not be extended beyond 14 days or dire things will result. Since the full length of time after surgery would have been ideal, but I was not aware of that at the time, I am thinking to completely remove the rest of the scab tonight after her 3rd soak and do some careful cutting or poking with tweezers. I will stop if it starts bleeding enough I get worried. IF I can remove the pus/whatever in there tonight, then there will be 10 days of medication after the surgery and 12 days total, which seems adequate to me.

If I cannot remove it for whatever reason, then I'll find a plan B.

I gave her a soak last night and painted clear iodine on. I did the same this morning & will do it again tonight just before I go digging. There seems to be a clearer possible pus spot now than when I first brought her inside.

Also, I think I'll put her outside again for the day. Poor girl is very droopy. Ducks get depressed way more easily than chooks---some of the bantams seem to actually enjoy being away from the rest of the flock.

I have always gave the scab time to pull up easily instead of pulling before ready to keep from damaging healthy skin. It sometimes takes more than a few days of using the iodine and soaking before you can get the scab off by using your finger nail to gently pull it off. Of course up to you how aggressive you want to be doing this..

I don't want to be aggressive with it at all but I don't know how much time I have. I should not have started the antibiotics. :(

In many cases Vets will proscribe antibiotics before they do any real surgery to first fight infection and then continue .
Your doing good..
