Bumblefoot? Is it gone? Pics

How deep is deep? How far do I have to cut? What direction? From the hole to center?

This pad is hard as a rock, I only got small amounts of blood after massaging and cutting the surface, I don't see any puss at all, it all looks like red flesh. I pulled on something at the surface and one of the toes moved, so I stopped.

I have worked on alot of these and I can tell you that if it were me I would massage it very firmly and soak it. The upper white part which is like a hole looks like its got pus in it. If you dig in there with a pointy tweezer you will likely see alot of pus come out and possibly a piece of the bumble still left behind. if you pull on something and a toe moves, then avoid that thing. If its a tendon or ligament it will be bright white and be shiny. they un close to the bones but they are not in the middle of the pad of the foot! if you use some sort of pointy instrument like a dental pick or very sharp tweezer you can get in there and see whats there. You will have to go in that hole...
you can wait and do some soaks and massage to encourage it to keep coming out, but that hole is still open so keep it packed with neosporin and wrapped with vet wrap. the thing on the surface was only one part...the real infection is inside and it will go into the bones if you dont get it all out.
Good luck.

I did poke around with a pointy tweezers and an xacto knife. It only looks like flesh.

well, wrap it up and wait...but soak and look every couple of days...Ive seen this before and it really looks like there is something in there under the hard stuff. chicken foot pads are usually sort of soft and loose. they arent hard like that unless there is something in there. But wait on it and see if it festers up more.
I would suggest staying on top if it.
Ive seen these things come back...actually every time Ive seen a hardness and that sort of look, Ive found something that comes back from under.
But only you can know if its best to wait and do it in a few days or try to get it now. I would just watch it. I know its a drag...you dont want to go too far, but you cant not get it all out.
if you wait, it may become more apparent. The chicken's body cant process the pus....chicken pus is hard and then its covered by the softer sorta clear stuff. hang in.
I just didnt want you to assume that its all out...it will probably need to be hollowed out at some point. if you pick at the white stuff at the bottom of the pic is it goopy? might want to follow that under the hard part...

;-)

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure where to poke. Straight into the pad center, but deeper? I'm not sure how far in to go before I should find something. The white stuff at the bottom of the hole is skin. I didn't find any puss at all during this probe. I had to cut it to make it bleed and it bled a small amount and stopped, anything I picked off seemed like flesh or skin, nothing goopy. I don't think I've accomplished anything. What ever is infected is still in there. Messaging didn't do a thing, it just stayed rock hard.

Does black salve have any 'drawing' ability for bumblefoot? Was wondering if you could take a gauze and put black salve on it, then wrap with Vetwrap. Would it draw out the scab or would you have to cut the scab off and then treat it? Would it even work at all?

What I do with it is I put antibiotic ointment on it then gauze pad folded to pad it and to help have something against it then I wrap the foot with 1 inch coflex dressing. I make sure the antibiotic ointment does not have any pain killers in it cause that is not good for chickens. I then change it every other day and I give my chicken a shot of penicillin to help with infection. If it is real hard after it soaks with antibiotic ointment and dressing will soften up so I can remove it and not be so painful. I am not sure about black salve.
