bumblefoot not healing well

With the MS was there a black scab? I had never heard of it being only in the left foot, thanks for the info! Had to think back on what foot mine was! Whew.
My little hen continues to get better, i got to let her go bandage free today!

I can't feel any more hard stuff in the foot pad.

Novaleigh, feel her foot now and see if you feel any hard lumps...... Now the swelling is down they would be much more pronounced. If there are corns, or dead tissue in there, it still has to come out or it will re-infect! This is the perfect time to do a "surgery", the crud should come out easy now. (I wouldn't even call the last one a "surgery", i just cut around the scab and it all came right out with a tiny squeeze) My hen had a bit between her toes that i missed with the first surgery, that's why it wasn't healing right, but i didn't find it until after the salve and antibiotics had brought the swelling down. Good luck, i am rooting for your hen!

It started out as bumblefoot. This weakened her system and allow the MS to bloom. And yes, MS only attacks the left foot for some reason. I finally got the staph infection cleared up and am working on the last of the swelling at the foot joint. 6 months later! Me AND this bird are ready for her to be healthy. :)

For those trying to figure out how to make the paste:

For the mixture, make a paste of the iodine and sugar, just thick enough not to run but not so thick it will be too gritty to spread.

I cut the gauze off a band-aid, oiled up the hen's leg and toes, and used strips of duck tape to secure a decent dob of the mixture to the foot pad. It can be left on for up to 3 days, It will draw out any pus in there. The oil is to keep the tape from ripping off the hen's scales, I use the tape because anything less and my birds would have ripped it off!

Does FIRST AID-ANTISEPTIC: Wound & Infection (Vetericyn) work as an irrigant? I have been using Schreiners herbal solution for years for all wounds i am told the only difference in the products is Schreiners has alcohol as a base.
Anyone tried either spray on bumblefoot?

GOT MY FIRST DUCK EGG TODAY!!!!! It was from Cylo, our Khaki Cambell (she is exactly 4 months old today!)

Very fun, no matter where you say it! What color was it & from what breed of duck? Any more eggs since?
(To everyone else--Please pardon the brief double-highjack of thread)

I am currently using vetericyn on my first case of bumble foot.... so I don't have a lot of experience, but I wanted to chime in that I'm using it.

I wonder if non-activated, diluted Oxine AH might be useful to spray on or into a foot after removing a bumble... Oxine kills Staphylococcus aureus, which is the bacteria that causes Bumblefoot.
Hmm...
