I posted earlier, we went to treat this tonight as Bumblefoot but my husband thought it was more like frostbite and didn’t want to cut into it as you would for bumblefoot.
We did a 20 minute Epsom salt bath, a spray with antibiotic spray and a blow dry. I will keep up with this every day, as well as put her on antibiotics.
Would you think this was frostbite, bumble foot or even something totally different?

I think it's bumble foot. We had a similar problem with one of our hens. But I could be wrong I've never had to deal with frost bite on feet only combs.

We tried to pick at it a bit after the bath but it didn’t want to budge. If it’s frostbite, we aren’t supposed to remove the blackened part....so could do more harm than good. This is where I’m stuck.

I have NEVER seen bumble foot on the end of a prop toe. It looks like good old fashioned frost bite to me. Let it alone what ever you do, and with luck the damaged portion of the toe will just fall off. Notice how the portion of the prop toe nearest to the foot is swollen and discolored. Listen to your husband.

Lol funny enough, he isn’t the chicken person around here......I am! But I did listen to him, which is why we didn’t pick the black part off. I am going to continue with the Epsom salt soaks and antibiotic spray...both on her toe and on her other foot where there seems to be a small scabbed cut. Poor hen with her feet.

Hi, I was wondering how your hen is doing. I have one with a similar problem- she had cold damage to her foot in January and now I notice the end of her toe is coming off. I don't want to mess with it, I figure it will take care of itself. She is acting ok, she still favors that foot a little though. Any advice? thx :)

Hey! She’s doing better. It is still puffy looking but she’s barely limping at all now and can put weight on that back toe again. We did a few Epsom salt baths with her and it really seemed to help, along with vetericyn spray.
I’m just waiting to see what is going to happen. She’s super healthy otherwise, eats and drinks, lays two eggs a day almost every day, etc. I just keep a close eye on her toe to make sure it keeps getting better.
