Bumblefoot quail

One of my quail got bumblefoot at 3 weeks old. I soaked her foot in a Epson salt bath everyday for about 15 minutes, followed by peroxide, and vetericyn or triple antibiotic cream. I did the peroxide and vetericyn or triple antibiotic at least 1 or more times throughout the day, whenever I got a chance.

I also started adding a touch of Apple cider vinegar to her drinking water, which I still do. Great stuff for naturally fighting off germs.

It took about 3 weeks, but she fully recovered, except her claw where the main bump was is now curved to the side..

I'm not sure which thing was most effective. I did a combination of all the suggestions I found on the internet hoping something might work.

I would not recommend cutting it or giving up on your sweetheart.

My quail gradually limped less and less as the infection was dieing. If yours is not limping as much that is a very good sign. Just don't give up! it takes a long time.

I hope your sweet quail recovers! Keep us posted!!

Thank you for your advice! As I’m in the UK I can’t get any antibiotic creams with out prescription so I’ve been soaking her foot in Epsom salts and putting fucidin cream on twice a day today is the last day of her oral antibiotics and about 2 days of pain killer left I will carry on with the soaks and add apple cider vinegar to her water, she has already loss the use of her middle toe when she had surgery? I don’t think the vet has even noticed? I’m glad your quail made a full recovery! And thank you again for your help!

Apple cider vinegar makes water taste bad, and primarily is used to keep algae from growing in it. I don't use it with my birds as I want them to drink the water. As for pain, you can give aspirin. Here's a website outlining dosages that you might want to bookmark for future use as well. http://www.poultrydvm.com/drugs/aspirin
